“Where are we going, Yunnie?”
“To a friend,” he answered simply. He didn’t want to lie but he had no choice. If he told him the truth, he knows he would totally flip out. He even cancelled their meeting with his parents just because of this. This is definitely more important than anything else.
They both stopped in front of a building. Squeezing his lover’s hand gently, they both entered the tall infrastructure. Stopping at the door which had the sign ‘Dr. Kim Youngwoon’ on it, the taller man knocked three times before twisting the door knob open. They were greeted by a well-built man sitting on a swivel chair.
“Good morning,” the doctor greeted. “I suppose you’re Jung Yunho?”
“Yes, Kim Youngwoon ssi”
“Ah,” the doctor chuckled. “no need to call me by my full name. Just Kangin is fine,”
He wanted to ask where that nickname came from but he decided against it. “It’s nice to finally meet you Kangin ssi. By the way, this is my boyfriend Kim Jaejoong” he handed Jaejoong’s hand to Kangin’s extended one.
Jaejoong bowed politely, although still not knowing what the heck they were doing in a doctor’s office. Was this even a hospital? “I’m Kim Jaejoong,”
Kangin shot Yunho a meaningful look which Yunho responded with a slight nod. The doctor smiled, “Alright Yunho ssi, Jaejoong ssi..why don’t we sit down and have a chat for a while”
Jaejoong immediately held Yunho’s hand as they walked over the sofa. “What are we doing here?” he asked, whispering. To his dismay, Yunho didn’t respond.
“So Jaejoong ssi, how long are you two together?” Kangin asked.
Jaejoong blinked and stared at the doctor. Yunho cleared his throat and whispered in his lover’s ear, “Baby, he’s asking you”
“Uhm, three years sir”
Alright, now that was fast, Yunho thought. Just the first question and he’s already doing it? He subconsciously squeezed his lover’s hand.
“Do you love Yunho?” Kangin asked which nodded as a response. And added, “Of course doctor ssi. I love Yunho more than anything and anyone. Can I ask you one thing though?”
“Go ahead,”
“Why are you asking me these?”
“I just wanna have a little chat with you guys. Yunho ssi told me you are very interesting and I wanna know if he’s telling the truth”
“Oh alright doctor, ask away”
Kangin and Yunho both sighed in relief. At least they’re getting somewhere. “Jaejoong ssi, please tell me things about yourself”
“I’m Kim Jaejoong and uhm, I live with my parents. My mom is a stewardess and my dad is a pilot. I’m an only child so you can say I’m quite spoiled,” he chuckled a bit. “Yunho and I have been childhood friends. We met when we were both eight. I started to have feelings for him seven years after we met. I’m not sure about him but yeah. And we just got together last year”
Kangin nodded. “Does anyone reject your relationship?” he asked.
Jaejoong shook his head, a frown forming his face. “None that I know of,” he then gasped after a while. “Oh! I remember someone! Yesung, he’s one of my close friends. He doesn’t approve of our relationship because he’s a homophobic”
“Besides this Yesung guy, is there anyone else? How about your parents? Or Yunho ssi’s parents?”
“My parents are always on a business trip so I’m pretty sure they don’t give a damn in whatever I do. Yunho’s parents are really nice to me, I consider them as my real parents”
“Alright, Jaejoong ssi. That’s it for now. Would you mind if I talk to Yunho ssi privately?” Kangin asked carefully. Sensing Jaejoong’s sensitivity, he doesn’t want him to misunderstand things.
Jaejoong looked at his lover with furrowed eye brows. Yunho smiled, “It’s alright Jae. Changmin’s outside the room, you can go talk to him”
“When did Changmin get here?”
“Just now. I really need to talk to Kangin ssi about something. Please babe?” After some time, Jaejoong finally agreed and walked out of Kangin’s office. When the door shut close, Yunho faced a very worried Kangin. “It’s not good news, is it?”
The doctor sighed. “I’m afraid not. I can sense that most things he said weren’t really true. Not just that, his answers aren’t consistent”
“That is definitely true. I have known Jaejoong all my life and I know everything about him. You see, his parents are already dead. They died when he was sixteen. He isn’t an only child either, he has an older brother. We have been together for five years, not three years or one year ago. Yesung isn’t a homophobic; he himself swings that way too. I don’t get why he’s lying about things”
“After observing his behavior for a while, I can come up with a diagnosis that he has a CLD”
“CLD?” Yunho wondered out loud.
Kangin nodded. “Compulsive Lying Disorder, it’s basically a psychological problem wherein a person tells lies with him or her realizing it. Although it is something serious and quite dangerous, it’s definitely curable. It’ll take some time though. As I can see, Jaejoong has been in this state for quite some time now that he’s so used in lying not even noticing the inconsistencies of his lies”
Yunho just sat there, absorbing everything the doctor is telling him. Sure it’s hard for him to accept the truth but what can he do? All he can do for now is help Jaejoong and he would be most definitely the first person to do that.
“What are we going to do now?”
“By any chance, did Jaejoong have any traumatic experiences or anything of that sort?”
He shook his head in response. “I don’t think so. His parents died in a car accident and I’m pretty sure that he got over their death after a while. I personally don’t consider it as traumatic since he didn’t see the accident happening”
Kangin nodded and scribbled something on his notepad. “Alright, trauma removed from the list. How about his school life? How was he?”
“He was used to be bullied back then. That’s how we met actually. My friend bullied him once and I just couldn’t stand it so I tried to befriend him. And oh, his parents always compare him to his brother. His brother is practically a genius and Jaejoong is just average. He couldn’t meet the expectations of his parents which make them compare their two kids not realizing the they’re hurting Jaejoong too much”
“So he was the target of the bullies? And his parents doesn’t appreciate him?”
“You could say that”
“Well then, low self-esteem it is. You see, some people who lack confidence has the tendency to make up stories or anything to make them look good in front of people. Some even make other people look bad so as they can look good. That’s how it works”
“Are we supposed to tell Jaejoong about this?” he asked curiously.
“Of course, but we have to make sure that it’s the right time. You cannot tell him randomly that he has a disorder or he would just probably laugh it off and not take it seriously. For now, just observe him and if things become worse just give me a call”
He’s extremely happy that he considered Changmin’s words. If not, things will probably get even worse and Jaejoong would end up being the world’s biggest and fattest liar alive and he does not want that to happen. Thankfully, he found a doctor immediately and he knows that Kangin will do everything to help him and Jaejoong.
But there’s this one teeny tiny thing that’s bothering him. How’s he supposed to break this news to Jaejoong’s brother?
