Secret - Three

“So tasty!” Kibum cheerfully said, licking his cone of ice cream. “I’ve never had one of this.”

“Really? Then have some more!”

“Cheers!” Kibum exclaimed, raising his ice cream.

Jonghyun had to look at him disbelief but then he chuckled after a while. “Nobody cheers with ice cream.” He said as a matter-of-factly.

“I do.” The smaller guy argued making Jonghyun shut his mouth up.

Smiling to himself, Kibum slowly walked towards Jonghyun’s classroom hoping to find the said guy inside. But to his dismay, he wasn’t there and instead, it was Jinki whom he saw. His smile turned into a pout and a sigh escaped from his lips.

“Everyone!” he snapped out of his reverie as he turned to his left seeing a boy running and screaming something. “Jonghyun’s gonna start!” and within seconds, students of each classroom hurriedly went out of their respective classrooms and followed the screaming boy.

Hearing Jonghyun’s name made Kibum smile. And so, he followed the crowd of people. As he was walking with the crowd, he heard someone say “Isn’t Jonghyun cool? I’m so in love with him.” He chuckled. He never knew that Jonghyun’s a kingka type.

“Hurry or we’ll miss it!” the boy, aka the announcer, shouted and their pace fastened.

A voice was heard when they were closer the auditorium. It wasn’t Jonghyun’s voice though. He peeked inside the hollowed hall and saw a student in front of the stage. “The new guy is going to challenge Donghae.” The emcee said. “What a brave thing to do. Let’s applaud to that!”

And so, the student body applauded. “What are they doing?” he wondered out loud.

“It’s been a while since we had a piano battle like this.” He heard another student say to his friend.

“Do you guys know me?” the emcee, once again, spoke— running a hand through his copper hair.

“Jewel guy Eunhyuk!” the crowd answered in chorus.

“That’s right!” Eunhyuk said, grinning widely with his gums showing off. “And this guy right here..” he continued, pointing at the guy sitting in front of the piano on his right side. “..he is Donghae. Do you guys know what his nickname is?”

“Prince of piano.” Again, the crowd replied in unison.

“Right.” Eunhyuk was enjoying this way too much. “That’s because there isn’t one song he can’t play!” he boasted. “And no one surpass him.”

“Prince of piano my ass!” one student behind Kibum hissed. He looked at the said guy who was looking at Donghae with disgusted eyes.

“Why so mad?” a blonde guy (which Kibum assumed is his friend) asked curiously.

“He’s gay. They’re gay. They’re a couple. That’s the reason why that gummy guy is praising his so-called ‘prince of piano’ too much.”

“They’re gay?” the blonde guy asked, surprised.

His friend looked at him in disbelief. “No shit Sherlock! Of course they’re gay! It’s all around the campus you freaking banana!” he said irritatingly leaving his pouting blonde friend.

“Why is he so mad at gay people?” Kibum wondered but then. He shifted his attention back to the event.

“Without further ado, let’s begin with our piano battle!” Eunhyuk announced making the crowd go wild.

Donghae started playing Chopin’s “Etude”. His hands swiftly moved from key to key and it looked effortless making the audience ‘wow’ at him. As soon as he finished the song, people applauded making him smile proudly of himself.

Once again, Eunhyuk made his way back the center of the stage not without giving Donghae a secret smile which Kibum didn’t miss. “New guy..” he said, referring to Jonghyun. “..did you listen carefully? Don’t you miss a key now!” he then wiggled his index finger in front of Jonghyun.

Before Eunhyuk could say something else, Jonghyun started playing. He played the same piece exactly the way Donghae played it. Once he finished the song, Eunhyuk practically stared at him in awe. “Not bad!” he said. “You didn’t miss one single key. Looks like we need something harder.”

Just then, Donghae’s fingers danced in the piano keys playing Chopin’s “Waltz”.

“Chopin’s Waltz? That’s too easy.” Eunhyuk commented. But Donghae won’t play an easy one, won’t he? The Prince of piano then fastened the tempo of the song as he played his improvisation of the song. “I knew it wasn’t going to be that easy.” He sure is proud of Donghae. “Come on!” he looked at Jonghyun. “Keep up!” Jonghyun stood up and he slightly chuckled. “I said keep up not stand up!” and with that, Jonghyun took a seat while clapping his hands, following the beat, just like what the others are doing. Donghae finished with more people cheering for him. “You are all lucky to hear that.” Eunhyuk boasted once again. “Donghae’s improvisation is brilliant! New guy..”

All eyes were focused on Jonghyun. He isn’t scared of Donghae, really. With a deep breath, he carefully placed his fingers on top of the piano keys and started pressing keys. People thought that he’s a trash that he can’t beat Donghae. But they were wrong, so wrong. They watched Jonghyun in awe as he amazingly beat Donghae.

Since they were equally talented, the people asked for a showdown which resulted into a draw. “The battle today is brilliant!” Eunhyuk said happily. “Let’s give them a round of applause! Okay, back to class!” and the crowd followed his instructions as they all went out of the auditorium one by one.

Jonghyun almost gasped when Donghae handed him something. He got it from Donghae’s hand and took a look at it. Eunhyuk saw what was happening and approached them, putting a hand on Donghae’s shoulder. “You’re really giving it to him?” Donghae nodded. “It’s rare!” and with that, the couple left Jonghyun who was still looking over the piece that Donghae gave him.

“Thanks!” he shouted before Donghae and Eunhyuk completely got out of the auditorium. Donghae looked back at waved at him good bye.

“That was good!” he looked up and saw Jinki smiling at him.

He smiled back and replied, “Thanks!”

“See you later!”

Unknown to him, Kibum is silently watching him with a smile on his face.
