Naked bodies pressed together, thighs glistening with sweat, legs intertwined, they are a pretty tangled mess. Youngwoon smiles, eyes turning into crescent slits as his fingers brush the offending bangs away from his lover’s face ever so gently.
They met at a club, where Youngwoon was having a celebration with his co-teachers. Youngwoon spotted a fragile-looking brown-haired man with – what he assumed as - a client on the table next to theirs and disgust was written all over him. “Give him a dollar. I bet he can bend over anytime, anywhere.” Youngwoon didn’t miss the hurt in the man’s eyes when he made a mistake to look at him. It was rude, he knew, but he hates people who sell their body for money and badmouthing them is as normal as eating.
“I’m not doing this for pleasure!” Youngwoon received a hard slap on the face when cornered by the guy in the men’s comfort room. “I’m completely broke! My brother is in the hospital, I need to pay the rent for my apartment this week or they’ll kick me out. Now, if you know a job that pays five times the amount of minimum wage jobs, tell me and I’ll take it.” he said which such shaky voice. “That was very insulting.”
His cheek still hurt from the slap but he wasn’t hurting because of it.
He found himself going back to the same club, frantically looking for the same guy. He was going to apologize. He was going to, but he never really got a chance to when he couldn’t find him, whatever his name was. “Hey,” he knew it was a perfect time to ask someone, maybe the bartender. “Have you seen a guy a little smaller than me, he has this brown hair and small dimples. Do you happen to know him?”
“Well, if he works here, then of course I do. I know everyone and you might be looking for Jungsoo. He’s out, with a customer, if you know what I mean.” Jungsoo, he took note of that.
“Of course, of course. Do you know when he’ll be back?”
Youngwoon looked at the bartender anxiously, hoping for a positive answer. “This one is a big fish, mister. I don’t think Jungsoo would be back soon, not until the morning.”
Youngwoon went home still with a heavy heart.
His quest to have a word with this Jungsoo guy didn’t end there. The next day, after his shift at the school ended, he rushed back the club. For some very odd reason, the issue kept bothering him and it was making him lose his sanity. At last, he found Jungsoo on a corner, drinking, alone. “What’s the matter?” was what escaped Youngwoon’s lips as soon as he made his presence known.
“My brother…he died.” Jungsoo looked up at him with a blank expression. “Are you gonna insult me again? Because if you will, please spare me—“
Whatever has gotten into Youngwoon was a mystery as he enveloped him in a bone-crushing – somewhat – comforting hug. “Just cry.” And Jungsoo did…a lot.
It was the turning point of their relationship.
Youngwoon visited Jungsoo everytime he wasn’t busy at school and at home. Yes, at home. But one fateful night, fate decided to play tricks on them. They were drunk and it was Youngwoon’s birthday. “Youngwoon ah, I don’t…present…I don’t have…can’t buy…money…can’t..” Jungsoo slurred almost incoherently, putting a hand above Youngwoon’s. “Something…but something…I can give…free…for free…”
It was at that moment when no one cared about anything anymore, nothing mattered and their bodies were acting on their own. Needless to say, they did it.
“I’m so sorry Jungsoo hyung! I wasn’t—“
“No, it’s my fault. I urged you into this. And besides, it’s my job. It’s not like I’m an innocent little virgin anymore. One night stands…I live because of it. And you don’t have to blame yourself for anything.”
“This…what we had…it wasn’t…it wasn’t a one-time thing for me. I want this, I want...us."
"Don't make me laugh Youngwoon. You and I both know we're just impossible. I don't like sleeping around when I'm committed to someone."
"Then don't! Hyung, be with me and you'll never have to sleep with anyone ever again...o-other than me of course. I can provide you anything and everything."
"It's not as easy as it sounds. I don't want you for money. I can raise money on my own and when I have enough…that is when I can handle relationships."
"Goddamnit hyung! Don't make this harder for me! Don't you know how hard it is to muster up the courage to just confess to you? Hyung, it's not as easy as it sounds."
Jungsoo stared at the younger man, hard. He was mad. "Kim Youngwoon, don't you know it's harder to keep— never mind.”
Youngwoon didn’t give up. He wooed Jungsoo and weeks after, his efforts finally paid off. He proved that what they have is worthy of a relationship. Things worked out fine. They were in pure bliss although they both know something’s not right.
His lover’s voice jarred Youngwoon back to the present.
“You okay?” asks Jungsoo, hands taking a hold of Youngwoon’s arms tightly wrapped around his bare figure. “You’re a million miles away. What’s up?”
“Nothing, really. Wanna have breakfast?”
“I think you need to go home already, your—“
“I am home.”
“Youngwoon…”
“Hyung…”
Jungsoo sighs, giving the younger one a light peck on the lips. “Fine, then I want pancakes and waffles.”
“Anything for you, love.”
-
“You do know we can’t be seen in public together, right?”
“Does it look like I care?” Youngwoon answers nonchalantly, tightening his grip on Jungsoo’s slim fingers. He could feel Jungsoo’s once tensed hand relax. “What are you scared of? Tell me.”
“Youngwoon, you know too well what I’m talking about.”
“But hyung. I told you it doesn’t matter!”
“It couldn’t not matter you dumbass! You ha—“
“Stop!” Youngwoon’s thundering voice stops Jungsoo from continuing further. “Why are you always bringing that topic up? Are you…are you pushing me away?” Carefully, he asks, wanting to confirm his suspicions. “There’s someone else, is there?”
“Youngwoon! Do you hear yourself?! Does it actually seem like I’m seeing someone else? I should be asking you that.”
A bitter chuckle escapes Youngwoon’s lips as he lets go of Jungsoo’s hand. He scoffs.”Oh yeah? Then who’s smart enough to whore himself around old rich horny bastards? Who sleeps around and lets himself get fucked for money? Who’s the slu—“ a palm comes in contact with his left cheek and he realizes whatever bullshit he has blurted out, it wasn’t nice at all. He reaches out for the older one but before he could even do so and apologize, Jungsoo runs away from him. He doesn’t bother running after him because he knows Jungsoo will come back eventually.
Jungsoo never did.
And two weeks after, he sees him again…at the club with another man, arm wrapped around his waist. Of course, being Youngwoon, he doesn’t think twice before deciding to give the man a piece of his distressed and angry mind. The furious look in Jungsoo’s eyes was scary enough to make Youngwoon pee in his pants.
“I don’t want to see your face ever again.” it was calm, so calm that Youngwoon could die from the calmness. He tries to explain himself but Jungsoo tells him he doesn’t need anything from him anymore “Leave, please.”
Youngwoon could only stare at a worried-looking Jungsoo helping the injured man, escorting him back the club. Youngwoon’s chest tightens. When Jungsoo told him many weeks back that he should take anger management, he should’ve listened.
“I’m so sorry hyung. I’m sorry.”
“And you are talking to whom?” an unfamiliar voice stops him from completely sobbing and he looks up to see a man staring at him with big eyes. “You do know you’re standing in front of the club…crying. It’s not an interesting sight you know. Did…did they kick you out?”
Youngwoon shakes his head furiously, bangs following every movement. “Who are you?”
“I…am your god.”
Youngwoon thinks the guy has lost his mind and so he gives him a roll of the eyes and leaves.
“When is he coming out?” he asks himself as he stands in front of the club the next day. He’s not gonna listen to whatever crap Jungsoo said because he knows he doesn’t mean it. He knows he doesn’t.
He has seen countless of pretty boys come in and out of the club but there still wasn’t any sign of his pretty boy. He heaves out a sigh and walks away. He’ll be back tomorrow. Tomorrow.
As much as he hates it, he drags himself back his house. The house that he never wanted to be in. “Youngwoon ah, you’re back!” greets his wife. Yes, wife. No matter how much he hates being with her, he has to treat her good. She has been nothing but a god wife and mother to their son. “The school called. They said you haven’t showed up for days. What happened?” she asks worriedly and all Youngwoon could do is give her a very light hug telling her everything’s fine. “Honggi misses you.”
“I miss him too. Where is he?”
“At school. I’ll pick him up in an hour.”
“I’ll do it.”
“I’ll go with you.”
He doesn’t want to but it’s not like he has any other choice. “Alright.”
Youngwoon loved Jooyeon. He really did. Their relationship was perfect. Almost too perfect that it lost its spark and with that spark, Youngwoon lost his feelings for her, too. Then Jungsoo came in the picture and his dull and boring life turned technicolor. He owes Jungsoo that much.
“You’re miles away. What’s wrong?” he glances at her before focusing back the road, his hands tightening the grip on the steering wheel.
“Are we…are we in a fight?”
“No,” he answers fast. Too fast. “No we’re not. I’m just—“
“I’ve done something wrong, haven’t I? You won’t even look at me.”
“Jooyeon ah, believe me, you’ve never done anything wrong. You have to trust me. I’m tired that’s all.”
Trust? Youngwoon wants to snort at that. Why should she trust him when he shouldn’t even be trusted? And what was he thinking asking for trust?
Ridiculous.
Immediately the next day, Youngwoon asked for a leave of absence due to unavoidable circumstances. It was as specific as he could get. He couldn’t possibly tell them that he needed to take a break for him to have time to make up with his boyfriend. He’s not that stupid.
“You’re here, crybaby.” Youngwoon acknowledges the insane man he met a few days ago.
“Hi there, god.” He greets mockingly. “Are you here to bother me again?”
“I’m not bothering you. I was just simply passing by and apparently, you’re here so being the kind-hearted person that I am, I greeted you.”
“Oh yeah. Calling me crybaby is very nice of you.”
“What are you doing here anyway? Are you like stalking someone or something?”
“Actually, I am.” He admits. “I’m waiting for my boyfriend. We kind of fought and he doesn’t want to see me.”
“Then what are you doing here? You said he doesn’t want to see you so scram! Go away and let him have his peace. He’s mad as it is, don’t infuriate him even more.”
“And what do you know about us?”
“Everything. Your issue has been the talk at the club for the past few days and Jungsoo, I’m telling you boy, is insanely furious.”
-
Youngwoon finds himself meeting up with Heechul almost everyday. He would have a chat with him and Heechul would give him news about Jungsoo and apparently, according to Heechul, Jungsoo still doesn’t like him at the moment. “My shift ends in about an hour. We could get something for dinner later if you want.” Heechul offers which Youngwoon accepts willingly.
Heechul tells him to give up. He refuses to but Heechul tells him Jungsoo is already happy with the man he once injured. “If you really love him, you’ll be happy for him.”
That was the last time Youngwoon dared to come near the club.
-
They meet again in a coffee shop three years later. Jungsoo is still the pretty boy that he is and Youngwoon is still mesmerized by him. His long messy hair is now cut short and styled to perfection. Youngwoon’s heart flutters. Going dugeun dugeun that he is almost hyperventilating— almost.
To say that he’s nervous is an understatement. “H-hi!” he stutters with his unusually high-pitched voice. Jungsoo chuckles lightly, noticing his nervousness. He tells the gawking man to take a seat across him. Youngwoon does. “How…how have you been?”
“Same old, same old.”
“I missed you.” Youngwoon admits before he could even stop himself. "I...I'm free now. We can...you know...if you still want...I..."
Jungsoo looks at him with a smile. A smile that Youngwoon missed for years. "But I'm not." Youngwoon's heart sinks but he smiles. "I have work in an hour. I work as an assistant chef in a restaurant a few blocks away."
Oh. Oh. So that was what he meant by free. Youngwoon finds his confidence again and takes Jungsoo's hand in his. "I'll pick you up after work."
Jungsoo nods, giving Youngwoon's hand a squeeze. I missed you so much.
It's amazing how they didn't talk about the past and how they didn't find the need to. And it's much more amazing how Youngwoon tries to resist the urge of hunting Heechul down and strangling him for making him believe all his lies.
